How to Style Christmas Card Photos

Since Michael and I started our own family, one of my favorite holiday traditions is sending out Christmas cards to our friends and family. While Michael would rather be behind the camera than in front of it, he is always a good sport when it comes to Christmas card photos. This year was no exception! Did you see? I even got him to hold up mistletoe... That's a win in my book!
While planning what to wear for a Christmas card photo can be oddly satisfying for someone like myself, I also realize that it can be a daunting task. I mean, everyone who matters to you will see this photo. Talk about pressure! That is why today I teamed up with my sweet friends at Vineyard Vines to share three styled looks to help you get started! Here we go!
Traditional Red & Green:
Is there anything that says Christmas card more than red and green?! When it comes to the traditional colors of Christmas balance is key. Balance can be created by using a mixture of patterns and solids. The last thing you want is for everyone to be in the same color. I always say - Don't match, COORDINATE!
I loved the plaid of this red dress so much that I chose to pull my favorite coordinating colors from it when choosing Michael's outfit. Now, imagine if Michael had been wearing a patterned shirt as well... See what I mean? Balance!
Red & Black:
I don't know about you, but it seems that red and black seems to be the second most popular Christmas color combination. I see it everywhere this time of year, and this girl is not complaining! When choosing red and black it's important to have plenty pops of red so that the photo doesn't drown in black.
The beautiful pattern of this skirt perfectly pops with a red sweater. I chose a black vest to go over your man's red button down in order to create some contrast up top!
Comfy Cozy:
Sometimes you just need to keep it casual! In my opinion, if you want good photos you need to choose an outfit that you are completely comfortable and confident in. While nine times out of ten I choose a dress, some of my favorite photos have been in a beautiful sweater and jeans.
You cannot go wrong with a cashmere sweater in a rich camel color. I love how chic this color looks when paired with dark denim! For your man, a cozy flannel of course!

Don't drown in dark colors.
Comfort is key to confidence!
