Peppermint Buttercream Recipe

This fluffy white Peppermint Buttercream Recipe is one to bookmark. The sweet peppermint flavoring makes it the perfect soft frosting for any holiday cookie!

One word, three letters... WOW.

This peppermint buttercream recipe is quite possibly my favorite holiday recipe to hit GFG this year. It is so creamy and soft, but the top hardens just enough to where you can stack or pack the cookies without it messing up. I let a few frosted cookies sit on my counter for about 5 days to see how it would hold up and the best part was taking that first bite and realizing it was still so soft and luxurious.

I'm all about finding those staple recipes that you can come back to time and time again and this buttercream recipe is just that! Easy, versatile, and delicious.

What You Need to Make This Peppermint Buttercream Recipe

To make this easy buttercream, you will need the following ingredients. See the full recipe card below for detailed amounts and instructions!

  • Confectioners' sugar - My recipe calls for 3 cups, but if you don't like things too sweet just cut that in half!
  • Butter – You’ll want softened unsalted butter for this recipe.
  • Shortening - Adding a bit of shortening gives the most luxurious buttercream.
  • Vanilla & peppermint extract - The best holiday mix! If peppermint isn't your thing you can replace with almond extract or any other favorites!
