Where to stay

Right Bank or Left Bank, that is the question. The Right and Left Banks of Paris are like two sides of a beautifully unique coin, each with its own distinct charm. The Right Bank dazzles with its grandeur and sophistication, home to iconic landmarks like the Champs-Elysees, the Louvre, the Palais Garnier, and the grand Place Vendome. Museums such as the Centre Pompidou and the Musee de l’Orangerie add to its refined allure, while the elegant streets of Le Marais showcase its timeless elegance. A short walk over the Seine, the Left Bank enchants with its more bohemian heart, filled with literary cafes, winding streets, and the artistic soul of neighborhoods like the Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain. Landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Musee d’Orsay, as well as the lush Jardin du Luxembourg, embody its intellectual and creative spirit. Both beautiful and each just as memorable as the other, narrowing down which Bank fits your taste is the perfect place to start.

Chateau Voltaire from the street at night.

As much as I would like to gate keep this, Chateau Voltaire has become our Parisian home and first choice when planning a trip to Paris. Nestled in the heart of the Right Bank, down the street from both the Place Vendome and the Tuileries, with only 31 rooms this chic boutique hotel offers an intimate stay with beautifully curated interiors that reflect Parisian elegance. With their central location, personalized service, understated luxury, restaurant, room service, and thoughtful amenities, Chateau Voltaire truly is a haven in the heart of the city.

Girl walking up the stairs at The Saint James Hotel Paris.

A little further out, in the more residential 16th arrondissement lies this luxurious boutique hotel, housed in a beautiful 19th-century mansion that was once a private residence. It combines elegance with a touch of whimsy (enter Pilou the house cat), featuring opulent interiors, a chic library, and an intimate atmosphere. With three Michelin Keys and a Michelin starred restaurant, the hotel is known for its impeccable service, offering a unique and personalized experience. With its blend of modern luxury and historical charm, the Saint James offers an exceptional Paris retreat.

Front awning of Hotel Costes in Paris.

Rich velvet furnishings, dim lighting, and intimate spaces lead to an air of mystery in this chic spot. Located right off of Saint Honore, Hotel Costes is an iconic luxury hotel that embodies that alluring, slightly risque Parisian charm. Known for its exclusive stylish ambiance, restaurant, and signature scent, the hotel is a favorite among celebrities and fashion insiders. The hotel’s allure lies not only in its luxurious accommodations but in its status as a cultural hub, offering a glamorous and refined experience, fabulous people watching included.

Located on Place de la Concorde, Hotel De Crillon is one of Paris’ most storied and luxurious hotels, blending centuries of history with modern elegance. Renovated in 2017, this iconic palace-turned-hotel is stunning inside and out, blending historical grandeur with contemporary luxury making it a true gem in the heart of Paris.

When you think of Paris and luxury, chances are you think of the Ritz Paris. Known for its impeccable service and timeless charm, The Ritz Paris is a legendary symbol of luxury, elegance, and refinement. Right in the heart of Paris on the prestigious Place Vendôme, it has been a favorite among royalty, celebrities, and dignitaries since it opened its doors in 1898. With names like Coco Chanel, Princess Diana, Ernest Hemingway, and Elizabeth Taylor, one’s can only imagine the stories it’s walls could tell. Whether you’re lucky enough to stay a few nights, enjoy one of their restaurants, the infamous Bar Hemingway, or just walk through to live in the legendary nostalgia for a moment, you’re going to want to lay eyes on this one.

Located in the historic La Samaritaine building along the Seine, Cheval Blanc blends Art Deco elegance and modern refinement with 72 exquisite rooms and suites that offer breathtaking views of the city. With their Michelin-starred restaurant, Dior Spa, stunning rooftop, and impeccable service it’s sure to be an unforgettable experience.

Where to eat

Golden baguettes, jewel-toned macarons, delicate pastries, cheeses, steak frites – We could go on and on. Paris is a culinary wonderland where every meal feels like a celebration of flavor, tradition, and artistry. From charming bistros serving beloved classics to Michelin-starred establishments redefining fine dining, the city caters to every palate with it’s signature effortless elegance. Whether enjoying a flaky croissant in the Tuileries or savoring an elegant tasting menu, dining in Paris is never fails to be a tribute to the art of living. My greatest suggestion would be to make reservations for all dinners. Lunch can be winged a bit, but dinner should be booked ahead of time. Most establishments being one to two weeks in advance. Cancel if you must, but when it doubt, book the reservation.

Shop entrance at Cédric Grolet Café Paris.

Always a line, but always worth it. There are a few Cedric Grolet stops in the city, but we found the cafe to have shorter lines and everything we wanted in the drinks, croissants-beignet, and cookie-pizza selections. Michael opted for the vanille croissant-beignet, while I became fixated on the strawberry cookie-pizza.

Hand holding cup of coffee on street from Café Kitsuné Paris.

Café Kitsuné

While I’m not a coffee drinker, Michael swears by Cafe Kitsune. According to him, it’s the best coffee in all of Paris.

Chocolate bears and madeleines at pastry case of Ritz Paris Le Comptoir.

If, like me, you have a sweet tooth, these madeleines are a non-negotiable. The lemon and raspberry quickly took precedence over macarons on our last trip to Paris and let me tell you, that is quite the feat. They have other items as well, but once my lips touched a lemon madeleine, it was over.

With its excellent menu, central location, the most aesthetically pleasing atmosphere, and divine French people watching, this charming café became our go-to lunch stop. I can suggest our favorites; the smash burger and fries, black truffle rigatoni, pasta with spicy red sauce, and Caesar chicken. They do dinner service as well, but we prefer the café for lunch.

This iconic spot is well worth the reservation. Like most everything Ralph touches, it is an absolute gem and what we have deemed the most charming courtyard and restaurant we’ve been to yet. The Caesar salad and steak frites became my regular order, while Michael gave their veggie burger and fish dishes his nod of approval. When it comes to dessert, I think of the Ralph’s Brownie at least once a week.

Bolognese in black bowl at Le George Paris.

One of three stunning Michelin-starred restaurants within the Four Seasons Paris, we booked this specifically for their vegan menu option and let me tell you, the vegan bolognese did not disappoint. In my pursuit of finding the best tarte tatin in the city, I ventured off of the vegan menu to try theirs and it currently alternates in my top two.

Dining table at Le Emile Paris.

This chic and intimate brasserie is located in our favorite, Chateau Voltaire. First, the flooring. Stunning. Second, their pepper sauce is out of this world and I feel confident stating that this is the best filet we have had in Paris up to this point. The later in the evening, the cozier the vibe.

View from dining table at Girafe Paris.

Eiffel tower view? Check. Incredibly chic aesthetic? Check. Delicious food? Check. Girafe and La Suite above are well worth the attempted reservation. If the patio is open, that’s where you want to be, but even if it isn’t the dining experience is one to be had.

View of Eiffel Tower from the balcony of Gigi Paris.

Offering Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients and known for its chic, stylish ambiance, Gigi combines fine dining with a relaxed atmosphere, making it a popular destination for those seeking a memorable experience. Their burrata starter, lemon ravioli, pesto pasta… Chef’s kiss.

Menu on dining table at Monsier Bleu Paris.

Inside the Palais de Tokyo, Monsieur Bleu offers beautiful Eiffel Tower views, Parisian classics, and a chic atmosphere. Similar in menu and feel to Girafe, I would recommend one or the other. Personally, I liked our experience at Girafe more, but both are divine.

Menu on stand outside of Brasserie Lipp in Paris.

Tucked in the heart of Saint-Germain, Brasserie Lipp is a beloved Parisian institution. Since opening its doors in 1880, this storied brasserie has been a gathering spot for artists, writers, and notable guests. Hemingway, anyone? The warm, Art Deco interiors are beyond charming while their menu remains a tribute to French tradition, making it a quintessential Parisian experience.

Costes Paris menu on dining table.

Want a possible celebrity sighting? Excellent people watching? A chic, moody French atmosphere? Go to Costes – The restaurant in Hotel Costes. Reservations are made by phone the day of, so set your alarm and get that call in at 9am for your best shot. Oh, and order the tarte tatin to share. You’re welcome!

View of restaurant from upper stairs at Bambini Paris.

Foccacia. That’s really all that needs to be said here.

Menu on dining table at Lou Lou Paris.

Located in the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Lou Lou offers stunning views of the Tulieres. Known for its stylish decor, exceptional location, and vibrant atmosphere, this is a popular spot for both chic locals and visitors. Highly recommend the pistachio pesto linguine, tomato-vodka pasta, and any and all desserts. Reservations can be tough to come by here, so stay on top of it in your planning.

Truffle pasta in bowl on dining table at Laperouse Paris.

Located on the left bank of the Sienne, housed in an 18th-century mansion, Laperouse is known for it’s romantic and moody atmosphere. The truffle pasta is divine and the chocolate cake not to be missed. This is one of our very favorite late night dinner spots and it makes for the most beautiful walk to and from dinner. This tends to be a hot spot, so make your reservations asap. The later in the evening the better on this one.

Chez l'ami louis

If you’re looking for an authentic French bistro experience, look no further. Twelve tables, famous whole roast chicken, and the Beckhams approval. Need I say more? If you are lucky enough to get a reservation, go.

A contemporary restaurant known for its focus on bold, creative flavors and an emphasis on fresh, high-quality ingredients, Datil offers a modern twist on French and Mediterranean cuisine. The sleek, intimate interior is stunning and perfectly complements its innovative menu. With one Michelen star, Datil known for offering a unique culinary journey. They also have a full vegan tasting menu upon request.

Front awning of Maxim's Paris.

A Paris OG and even makes a quick appearance in Devil Wears Prada. The iconic, legendary French restaurant has long been a symbol of luxury and glamour in the city. Located on Rue Royale, Maxim’s is famous for its decor, with opulent interiors, vintage charm, and an atmosphere of old-world elegance. The restaurant offers classic French cuisine, combining fine dining with a rich history. Maxim’s is not just a restaurant but a Parisian institution, providing a truly memorable dining experience.

A newish spot on our radar, graced by the likes of Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, and practically any other star you can think of. The upscale Italian restaurant quickly became known for their stylish atmosphere, people watching, and homemade pastas.

There’s a rule when I’m in Paris that if I come upon a Pierre Herme, macarons must be bought. Laduree is divine, don’t get me wrong, but these… These are incredible. They have an extra bit of chew that releases a level of serotonin that I didn’t know was gastronomically possible. Any and all flavors. You can’t go wrong.

LADUREE

We all know her. We all love her. But you’ll love her even more when you’re in line, waiting to get into the Louvre. If you enter the Louvre through the Carrousel entrance that leads downstairs, you’ll be able to wait for entrance inside, window shop, and grab some macarons for the wait. Genius.

Chocolates fit for the court. Debauve & Gallais is a historic French chocolatier founded in 1800 by Sulpice Debauve, who became official chocolatier to the French royal court. Even creating a special chocolate, Pistoles de Marie Antoinette, specifically for Queen Marie Antoinette to help her better take medications that they still sell today.

What to do

Paris is a city that enchants with every step. From towering landmarks that sweep the skyline to hidden corners filled with art and history, the city unfolds like an actual living poem. Stroll through its cobblestone streets, where every turn, door, and building reveals a new story to lose yourself in the beauty of its timeless architecture. Whether resting in the gardens or wandering past grand palaces, Paris invites you to linger, reflect, and savor all of its irresistible charm, banking moments and memories for long after you’ve gone.

If you’re an Impressionist appreciative, this one is a must, famous for its stunning display of Claude Monet’s Water Lilies, shown in two specially designed oval rooms made for immersive lingering. The museum also houses a significant collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works by artists like Renoir, Cézanne, and Modigliani. Whether you’re an art aficionado or just looking for a relaxing way to spend your day, its serene atmosphere and carefully curated pieces make for a truly memorable experience. Make sure to get tickets for a time slot in advance. I would suggest a morning slot for a slower crowd.

Housed in a breathtaking glass-and-steel building on the edge of Bois de Boulogne, Fondation Louis Vuitton is a captivating fusion of art, architecture, and nature. Inside, you’ll find a dynamic mix of contemporary art as well as pieces from the Louis Vuitton collection. With its stunning design, exciting exhibits, and serene views, the museum offers an unforgettable experience that is worth the stop. It’s a bit of a longer walk to the Fondation, not a bad walk, but you do go through a more dusty, secluded area of the park that I prefer not to walk through, so I suggest a taxi for this outing. Grab tickets online ahead of time and to see what’s currently showing, but there’s really no bad time to go to this one.

Currently ranking number one as my favorite place on earth. The clocks, the florals, the flow, the pieces. When someone tells me to go to my happy place, it’s here, in this absolute treasure trove of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art. Housed in a former Beaux-Arts railway station – truly stunning – its grand architecture provides a dramatic backdrop for masterpieces by Monet, Van Gogh, Degas, Renoir, and more. The museum’s blend of history, art, and atmosphere makes it a must-visit for anyone seeking to experience the heart of French artistic innovation or simply wants a truly beautiful day. This one tends to stay busy no matter the time, so be sure to plan ahead and book your time slot well in advance.

We all know her, the iconic Louvre. Walking into the Louvre truly is like walking into a dreamlike celebration of art and history with every corner revealing a new masterpiece. Once a royal palace, its grandeur sets the stage for iconic works like the Mona Lisa and the Winged Victory of Samothrace, alongside treasures from ancient Egypt to the Renaissance. Its beauty and timeless allure make it an unforgettable journey through the heart of human creativity. The sheer magnitude of the space can be overwhelming, especially when trying to navigate your way through the crowds. My advice? Don’t worry so much about the museum map or trying to find one specific piece. Go in with no plan and no timeline, just start walking and take it all in. Eventually you’ll walk across larger crowds or signs leading to the bigger draws within the museum, but there is so much to be seen that you don’t want to have your head stuck in your map the whole way. Be sure to plan ahead for this visit as tickets can go quickly and ticketed time slots are checked as you enter. We prefer waiting downstairs in the Carrousel entrance, but just know you’re not going to avoid a line no matter the time or the entrance. Just take it as part of the experience! P.S. Make time to see the pyramids at night. You’ll never forget them.

Housed in the stunning Bourse de Commerce, a beautifully restored 18th-century building, this collection is as much about the space as it is the art. The Pinault Collection is a captivating showcase of contemporary art, offering an intriguing glimpse into the cutting edge of modern creativity with works from leading contemporary artists like Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, and Damien Hirst. The building’s striking architecture, coupled with its dynamic exhibitions, makes the Pinault Collection a unique and immersive art experience in the heart of Paris. Grab your ticket online, but this one doesn’t require as much planning or time and can be booked day of if needed. It makes for a great stop in your morning or afternoon.

A hidden gem, blending history, architecture, and art in a remarkably beautiful way. Originally built in the 18th century as a royal admin building, Hotel de la Marine has been beautifully restored to showcase its grandeur offering visitors a glimpse into the opulence of French aristocracy and the fascinating history of the French monarchy. The building’s elegant design, along with its exquisite collection of period furnishings and artworks, provides a captivating journey through time. This is a guided tour with headsets walking you through each room with fascinating facts and stories. It takes only an hour or two to tackle this one and can be booked on a whim if desired.

palais royal

Ever wonder where those black and white striped columns that everyone takes pictures on are? Here you go! That would be the Colonnes de Buren, a modern art installation in the courtyard of the Palais Royal, adding a contemporary twist to the classical setting. The Palais Royal is special for its rich history, stunning architecture, and serene atmosphere right in the heart of Paris. Once a royal residence, it’s now a captivating mix of elegant gardens, historic arcades, and chic boutiques. The Palais Royal offers a rare blend of royal grandeur, artistic innovation, and peaceful charm, making it a beloved and unique spot for both locals and visitors seeking a moment of beauty and quiet in the bustling city.

The Centre Pompidou is known for its bold, innovative architecture and dynamic approach to modern art. Designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, its exterior features exposed pipes and colorful beams, creating a striking inside-out look that makes it one of the most iconic buildings in Paris. Inside, the museum houses a vast collection of contemporary art, including works by Picasso, Kandinsky, and Duchamp, as well as rotating exhibitions. The Centre Pompidou also includes a public library, a cinema, and panoramic views of the city, making it a vibrant stop in your day.

Let the opulence and history move you. The historic opera house, built in the 19th century by architect Charles Garnier, is a masterpiece of Beaux-Arts design, with its grand staircase, lavish interiors, and intricate frescoes. Famous for its dramatic Chagall ceiling and the legendary phantom of the opera, it remains a symbol of Parisian elegance, offering visitors a glimpse into the grandeur of the Parisian arts. While you can get tickets for a tour of the opera house anytime, be sure to check their schedule of events to see if anything lines up with your travel dates. It’s one thing to see it, another entirely to feel it.

jardin des Tuileries

The Tuileries Gardens are heaven. Actual heaven, right in the heart of Paris where history and beauty marry effortlessly. Once the royal gardens of the Tuileries Palace, they now offer a serene escape with tree-lined pathways, tranquil fountains, and exquisite sculptures. Set between the Louvre and Place de la Concorde, the gardens are a perfect spot to unwind, whether you’re strolling under the shade of the trees, enjoying the vibrant flowerbeds, or simply soaking in the breathtaking views.

Jardin du Luxembourg

Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, Jardin Du Luxembourg is one of Paris’ most beloved and beautiful parks. Created in the 17th century for Marie de Medici, it’s famous for its graceful layout of manicured lawns, tree-lined walkways, elegant fountains, and statues. The park is also home to the grand Luxembourg Palace, now the seat of the French Senate. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely walk or simply relax by the iconic Medici Fountain.

Place des Vosges

A hidden gem in the heart of Paris, Place des Vosges is where, like most of Paris, history meets beauty. As the city’s oldest planned square, its elegant red-brick mansions and graceful arcades surround a gorgeous garden, offering a peaceful escape from the bustling streets of Marais. Today, it’s a delightful haven where you can enjoy the quiet beauty, cozy cafes, and charming galleries that line its arcades.

Champ de Mars

The best place to see the Eiffel Tower up close is at the Champ de Mars. This large public park stretches out beneath the tower, offering an unobstructed view of its iron lattice structure from the ground up. It’s a wonderful spot to take in the sheer scale of the Eiffel Tower and enjoy a relaxing moment in the park, whether you’re having a picnic, strolling, or simply marveling at this iconic landmark. It truly is something to see.

The Trocadero

If you too want to have that Dua Lipa, Callum Turner romance movie moment, dancing in the light of the Eiffel Tower, head to the Trocadero. Located on the opposite side of the Seine River, across from the Eiffel Tower, the Trocadero offers one of the most breathtaking views of the tower. Especially at night! From the Trocadero, you can enjoy an expansive, unobstructed view of the Eiffel Tower framed by beautiful fountains and lush gardens. It’s a popular spot for both tourists and locals, offering the perfect vantage point for photos and a stunning perspective of Paris’s most iconic landmark.

Pont Alexandre III

Pont Alexandre III is often considered the most beautiful and grandest bridge in Paris. Spanning the Seine River, it connects the Champs-Elysees quarter with the Invalides district. This elegant Beaux-Arts style bridge is adorned with intricate sculptures, golden details, and stunning lamp posts. Known for its architecture and breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower, the Pont Alexandre III is a favorite for both locals and visitors, offering one of the most picturesque spots in Paris.

giverny

If you are looking for a day trip from Paris, look no further than Giverny. About an hour outside of Paris, sits Claude Monet’s home and gardens. Yes, the gardens which inspired his iconic Water Lilies series! The peaceful, lush gardens offer a glimpse into the artist’s world, with vibrant flowers and serene ponds that feel like stepping into one of his actual paintings. Check the train schedule, to make this day of art, history, and beauty happen.

versailles

Another easy day trip, and probably the most popular, is a visit to the magnificent Palace of Versailles. About 45 minutes by train, Versailles offers a stunning experience with its opulent palace, beautiful gardens, and famous Hall of Mirrors. The palace is a symbol of French royal grandeur, and the surrounding grounds are perfect for a leisurely day.

rOLAND GARROS

If you’re a tennis fan you won’t want to miss seeing the clay courts of Roland Garros. Named after the French aviator Roland Garros, the venue is iconic for its rich history, vibrant atmosphere, and stunning stadiums, including the Philippe Chatrier Court, where many of tennis’ greatest moments unfold. My favorite of Parisian department stores, Le Samaritaine offers a wide range of luxury fashion, beauty products, home goods, and more. It’s a must-visit spot for both shopping enthusiasts and those interested in Parisian architectural beauty.
